MUST-Haves for Every Installation

15 Must-Haves for
Every Interior Design Installation!

The moments, hours and days leading up to the reveal or opening of a new space can often be nerve-wracking, stressful, and unfortunately frantic. For the installation whiz, the process can be enjoyable, fulfilling and intentional.

Seeing design elements coalesce into striking compositions and noting the formation of subtle balances and nuances can transform the hectic and sometimes sweaty installation process for you and your team. To help you be more present and intentional at installations, we have grouped together some of our must-haves for installation day.

1. Portable Speaker

Because communication is key and being plugged in can be dangerous on job sites, a small speaker to play music while working away is a great way to tune in but not tune out

2. To Go Coffee Mug

Having coffee can give you the kick you need to continue unboxing or to push past the mid-afternoon haze. Bring a to-go mug to prevent nightmare-ish spills.

3. Reusable Water Bottle

If you are at a new build (even at a residential project), then there are probably very few cups easily accessible. Pack a reusable water bottle to stay hydrated while you are on the move.

4. Utility Knives

Everyone should have their own utility knife. When purchasing a knife look for the brightest colors possible for easy identification.

5. Pocket Pack of Tissues

If you have allergies then it is a no-brainer, but if you’re working on a new build we recommend bringing these just in case bathroom tissues have yet to be stocked or unboxed.

6. Nitrile Gloves

Great for reducing the amount of post-install fingerprint wiping and cleaning that has to be done on brass, nickel, glass, mirrors, and acrylic-- essentially everything.

7. Magic Eraser

A great friend for minor marks and stains-- remember to always spot test and read the instructions. (Pro Tip- rip the eraser in half and use the rough inside to work at tougher marks).

8. Hand Sanitizer

As boxes and crates move from points of origin to the final destination, they pass through many hands and touch many loading docks, forklifts, and curbsides, they may pick-up unwanted substances. Sanitize, sanitize, sanitize! Health is wealth.

9. Level + Laser Level

Having both of these change the game completely when hanging wall art, mirrors, and the like. We recommend pairing this with #10.

10. 48-56” Ruler

Matched up with a laser level, this piece of equipment will dissolve all of your wall hanging woes. It also works as a convincing talking stick and pointing device.

11. Canned Air Duster

For details & for also cleaning out woodgrain that has become slightly dusty.

12. Healthy Snack

For the morning munchies or afternoon hangry spell that catches us all. If you feel a scowl coming on, it's most likely because you need a YOU MOMENT. It’s okay to sit and scroll, just be conscious of your deadline.

13. Unhealthy Snack

For team building and a reward when needed!

14. Face Masks + Earplugs + Glasses

Avoid inhaling things other than the atmosphere! Protect yourself while surrounded by all of the drilling, hammering, or sanding that has to happen.

15. Portable Charger

If it's referring to drawings or taking process shots, stop running back and forth to your phone plugged into a wall. Use a portable power bank / charger to keep your device nearby!

Final Thoughts

Installs can be challenging no matter what the scale is, from a lounge in an office to an entire home, there will always be the unexpected. Although a robust tool kit can take you far, recognize that a well thought out plan, positive mentality, and the ability to use creative thinking are also must haves for a great installation day.
