Meet Sun at Six
Sun at Six is interested in how spaces affect our everyday choices. Their furniture is designed with the idea that spaces influence and define how we relate to others. Furniture, and how it's arranged, plays a role in shaping these relationships and interpersonal dynamics. Working with traditional joinery masters
“A large part of why we feature this craft comes from a desire to fight the Made in China stereotypes and Chinese stereotypes in the United States. ”
Sun at Six creates their furniture using classical Chinese joinery.
Sun at Six creates their furniture using classical Chinese joinery, which uses intricate interwoven joints to create furniture without the use of any nails or screws. By using this intricate joinery system, furniture can acclimatize in real time to extreme changes in temperature and humidity, allowing the wood to “breathe” and expand and contract to prevent cracks and warping.
Sun at Six has been working with traditional joinery masters for over 30 years, and continue to work with joinery masters out of Guangzhou in southern China. Sun at Six specializes in this Chinese woodworking technique, continuing a long history of craftsmanship.
As the use of this traditional Chinese joinery continues to fade, Sun at Six aims to breathe new life into it by applying traditional technique to new designs. A classic story of old-meets-new!

use of materials
“Great furniture begins with quality materials.”
Sun at Six works to bring out the natural character already present in natural materials. Materials such as:
Raw, Sustainably Sourced Solid Wood
Sun at Six works hard to find quality, sustainably sourced hardwoods, which are air-dried, hand-sealed, and carefully kiln-dried according to their own recipes.
Natural Tenna Oil Finishes
Derived from natural nuts and trees, their tenna oil is made in-house. Sun at Six designed their finishes to withstand wear, spills and stains, while highlighting the natural character of the wood.
Vegetable Tanned Leather
Their leathers are sourced from a family-run tannery in Santa Croce, Italy. The vegetable tanning process used is an old art form. Vegetable tannins produce leather that has a substantial look and feel, that becomes softer with use and patinas gracefully with age.

This minimal bar stool combines clean lines with quality material. The Carob Stool is designed around what Sun at Six likes in a bar stool - a wide, cushioned, comfortable seat, a practical footrest, and an easily moveable form from all angles in a crowded space. The stool was designed around minimizing its horizontal footprint, maximizing the available space at the bar.
